85 – River Ithon – Shaky Bridge

Brief description of fishery:

Barbless hooks. All Trout and Grayling to be returned. Maggots may be used on or between 15th September to 14th March.

Fishing is from the right bank only approximately 1500yds. A small River with a mixture of shallow and deeper holes. This stretch is suitable for fly fishing all year round. Once mid September arrives, standard coarse fishing tactics come into their own. Main species: Trout, grayling, chub, dace. Trout Season 3rd March to 25th October

Key Points: Barbless hooks when fly fishing, all trout and grayling to be returned. Coarse fishing allowed between 15th September to 14th March inclusive. Park so as not to cause obstruction. Take care when wading.

Access & Parking

Drive from the Crossgates island down the A483 to the second island and turn left into Spa Road E into Cefnllys Lane for 1.23 miles, turning right at the T junction. Alternatively, on the A44 towards Crossgates, turn left towards Cwmbrith just after crossing the Ithon at Penybont. You will crossthe river again at Brynthomas and immediately there is a sharp left hand turn with a road off to the right towards Cwmbrith. Staying on this road willbring you to the bottom reaches of the water. Access is from the car park at the end of the road from Llandrindod Wells. OS reference SO084613. Landranger Map 147.
