46 – Severn & Salwarpe – Hawford

Fishery Description

Brief description of fishery:

River Salwarpe, 593yds right bank. Has a very large population of small fish with the occasional large fish appearing. However this river comes into its own when the River Severn is up. Be aware that the opposite bank is fished by the BAA and they do run contests on their water. This river holds a good head of predatory fish.

River Severn, 1062yds left bank. Generally deep and slow The Riparian owner has warned that the River Severn can rise very quickly and there are areas where it is possible to be cut off by flood water. Please exercise caution when fishing during flood conditions. The track to the car park can be very slippery when wet. It is recommended that the lay bye be used during wet periods.

Main species: Barbel, chub, roach, perch, dace, pike, carp, bream and eel.

Accessibility good. But long walk to Severn.

Key Points: Track can be slippery after rain. Livestock present. Possibly electric fencing. Shut all gates securely after use. Be aware that rising river levels can cause you to become cut off. Some decent carp evident on the Severn. Salwarpe good when Severn is up. (See note on flooding).

Access & Parking

Approaching from the Worcester direction towards Ombersley on the A449, approximately ¾ mile from the island just over the Salwarpe Bridge there is a lay bye. The A449 is very busy, exercise extreme care when entering or leaving this venue. The entrance gate is at the very beginning (bottom) of the lay bye just after the bridge. OS reference SO844603.
Drive approximately fifty yards down the track to the car park. Be aware that there may be livestock kept in the fields and possibly electric fencing in use.
ENSURE ALL GATES ARE SECURELY CLOSED AFTER USE.
